Dallas Police are warning of a phone scam in which callers ask for donations to state troopers, Texas Highway Patrol or Department of Public Safety.
In a statement, police remind neighborhood residents that they never call for charitable donations.
“Scammers include in their names the terms, ‘TX Rangers,’ ‘State Troopers,’ ‘TX Highway Patrol,’ or ‘Department of Public Safety.’
“If you are contacted by a group you believe is misrepresenting itself as part of the Texas Department of Public Safety, contact the Consumer Protection Division of the TX Attorney General’s Office at 1-800-621-0508.”
