I like Dickens’ The Christmas Carol. Really. And I’m glad to see that the theater center is staging the play yet again, for what’s going on more than two decades. But this is not a good time for a marketing campaign using junk phone calls.

I have already received, in the last two or three days, three calls from the pro-toll road people. The most recent was a taped call from Lakewood-area councilman Sheffie Kadane, who is probably better at doing other things than reading the canned message. You have to sell it, councilman. Ask Bill Keffer, who is running for the state house, for his advice. His call earlier this week wasn’t bad at all.

The point being that when the phone just rang, and it was the kid who plays Tiny Tim in The Christmas Carol in all of his "God Bless Us, every one!" recorded charm trying to sell me a few tickets, I slammed the phone down and hung up. This is what politics does to you — makes you hang up on Tiny Tim.
