Stunt planes were all the rage in the 1920s and ’30s as daring pilots tested the limits of the burgeoning technology. Aviators regularly took guests to twirl and roll over the lake, but that led to tragedy on Jan. 10, 1934. Numerous witnesses saw the small aircraft flying wildly out of control, whipping through trees before it came to a crash landing in the water, near Lawther and Garland Road.
