In October, as Munger Place morphs into full-scale Halloween mode with flying bats and giant spider webs, Beth Dunn Bradley’s yard is filled with a flock of bright pink flamingos. Each year, Beth’s flamingo migration coincides with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer.

Each flamingo bears the name of a survivor or a friend who has lost their fight. Beth’s flock continues to grow.

Perhaps next October, more East Dallas neighbors could join in showing their support with a pink flamingo theme, since breast cancer has affected so many people.

Beth, a six-year cancer survivor, completed her seventh Komen race on Oct. 19 in Dallas.
