Amateur bakers are invited to enter their best pies in a tasty neighborhood competition from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 23 at the White Rock Farmers Market.

If you aren’t a baker, head to the market and taste every pie for $5. Vote on your favorite to help choose the winner.

Here’s how it works.

What are the categories?

Awards are given to the winners in the following categories:

  • Best Fruit Pie
  • Best Nut Pie
  • Best Chocolate Pie
  • Best Cream Pie
  • Best Savory Pie
  • Best Youth Pie (Under 16)
  • Best Overall Pie

How do I enter?

Enter online and pay the $10 entrance fee with a credit or debit card. Or send the entry form with checks payable to Good Local Markets at 9543 Losa Drive. The deadline for entry is Nov. 22 at noon. Bakers must bake two pies per entry for tasting. There is only one entrance fee per pie entry.

What are the rules?

The contest is open to amateur bakers of all ages. Contestants may enter as many pies in as many categories as they choose.

Pies, pie fillings and pie crust must be homemade. Commercial fillings, crusts and store-bought pies are not allowed.

Contestants must check in between 8:30-9 a.m. The farmers market will provide tables, plates, forks and napkins, but bakers must bring their own serving utensils.

How are the winners chosen?

Winners will be chosen through the people’s choice ballots, which will be announced at noon. Category winners will receive ribbons, market tokens and bragging rights.
