Neighbors have expressed concerns about pedestrian safety at Geneva Heights Elementary, Mockingbird Elementary, J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School. Councilman Paul Ridley has shared plans to address the pedestrian safety concerns at each campus.

Mockingbird Elementary

Councilman Ridley has collaborated with the Department of Transportation to introduce safety measures to the intersection of Delmar Avenue and Ellsworth Avenue, close to the campus. Signage at the intersection will be moved to provide better visibility of pedestrians crossing. A four-way stop will be installed in addition to the intersection being cleared of parked cars with No Parking signs. Ellsworth Avenue and Bremen Street will have crosswalks for all approaches with the appropriate signage.

Geneva Heights Elementary

Ridley has requested an updated traffic study to obtain a flashing crossing signal at Goodwin Avenue and Matilda Street to address concerns about pedestrian safety while crossing.

Four new crossing guards have been approved a the following locations:

2900 Matilda Street and 5800 Goodwin Avenue (two)

Greenville Avenue and Goodwin Avenue (one)

Vanderbilt Avenue and Matilda Street (one)

J.L. Long Middle and Woodrow Wilson High

The Department of Transportation has expedited Ridley’s request to fix the one-way signage on Reiger Avenue that shows timing that is inconsistent with school hours.
