Ricky is lucky to be alive. The little guy ran back and forth across busy Garland Road before he was scooped up by a couple of good Samaritans who stopped to save him. They couldn’t keep him, so they brought him to the Memorial Day Parade in Forest Hills in 2008, where he met his mama, Molly Mandell. A birth defect makes his tongue perpetually hang out of his mouth, giving him a goofy grin. “He is epileptic and has had back surgery. These things may cause a dog to feel down, but nothing stops Ricky,” Mandell says. “He is sweet, energetic, and loves me more than I have ever seen a pet love its owner.”
