In the 1920s, the hectic thoroughfare of Live Oak Street passed through a serene neighborhood of stately homes.

This photo, posted on the Pioneers of Dallas County Facebook page, shows a traffic circle on what is known as Collett Avenue today.

By the early 1950s, the single-family homes lining the street had been torn down, and the area was rezoned for apartments. The live oaks were chopped down as the road was widened and extended to Skillman Street, according to the post.
