This month has been a series of “lasts” for Lakewood Theater.

In case you somehow haven’t heard the theater is closing at the end of the month, and the inside is likely to be gutted and redesigned into restaurants and/or stores. The outside, however, will stay the same. Many neighbors have fond memories of the good ol’ days at Lakewood Theater, and when they heard about the coming changes, they began sharing them on the Facebook page “Save the Lakewood Theater.”

Other neighbors are still trying to make some last-minute memories. Last week Viva Dallas Burlesque held its last show there, and this week a Lakewood man popped The Big Question to his girlfriend in front of the iconic marquee.

“We have been Lakewood residents for the past two years,” Derrick Granado explains, “and we have our weekend walks for breakfast every weekend, in which we pass the Lakewood Theater on our path. On this past weekend’s walk to Legal Grounds for breakfast, she was in for quite a surprise.”

Granado used the marquee to propose to his girlfriend, Stacy Krumholz — to which, of course, she said “yes.”
