The past two days have seen a murder, investigation and arrest made in Old East Dallas.

On June 27, Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at 4311 Live Oak, near the intersection of Peak around 5:30 p.m.. Sergio Benavides, 56, was found in a parking lot, suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to Baylor hospital where he died, according to Dallas Police.

Security camera footage from the nearby Family Dollar captured the stabbing, and a bulletin went out to police describing the suspect. An officer working in a covert capacity observed Patrick Washington, who matched the description. Washington, who is described as homeless in the affidavit, was found behind El Rancho Supermarket on Gaston Avenue. Officers searched Washington’s belongings, some of which were smeared with blood. The suspect denied being involved with the murder.

Washington was arrested yesterday and escorted jail after speaking with detectives. His bond has been set for $500,000.
