Since 2003, neighbors in the Oak Lawn area have enjoyed the delicious food of Oishii on Wycliff Avenue. The restaurant is a hidden gem in the area, notorious for a large menu and friendly service.

By January, the eatery will expand to East Dallas, and we suggest marking your calendars now. The restaurant’s second location will take over the space at 5625 SMU Blvd. that was once Across the Street Bar and most recently, Spin Pizza, according to CultureMap.

The menu differentiates Oishii from traditional sushi restaurants by boasting a wide variety of dishes, including Peking duck and orange chicken, as well as traditional Vietnamese dishes.

Chef and owner Thanh Nguyen, an immigrant from Vietnam, has been working the restaurant scene in Dallas for years. He honed his skills at restaurants in Plano and Oak Lawn until he finally opened his own place in 2003.

Oishii, meaning “delicious” in Japanese, has been a longtime favorite in Oak Lawn, with neighbors crowded around tables enjoying spicy salmon cabbage salad and the sushi lunch platter.
