It’s all about the holidays here in East Dallas. Check out our full holiday guide for a complete list of seasonal events, but here are some highlights happening this weekend.
The Nutcracker Short ‘n’ Suite performances will take place at Woodrow Wilson High School this weekend. Dancers from Woodrow, J.L. Long, and feeder pattern elementary schools will perform in this shortened ballet. Performances will be Thursday and Friday night at 7 p.m. and Saturday at noon. There will also be a Land of Sweets Breakfast Saturday morning at 10 a.m. where neighbors can take pictures with the characters and Santa Claus. Tickets range from $6-$10, and the breakfast is $5.
The BMW Dallas Marathon is this Sunday morning. The course goes all the way around the lake, starting at the south end and running clockwise around the lake before heading back downtown. Learn more to see your favorite runner or avoid traffic.
School may not be the first place you go to shop, but there’s a reason to give it a try this Saturday. Bishop Lynch High School’s Christmas Bazaar is set from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the school.
The Friends of Aldredge House will host a lantern walk Sunday night from 5 to 8 p.m. The walk is a guided tour of Swiss Avenue homes that will feature the historic holiday traditions of the prestigious Avenue. Tickets are $45 for members of Friends of Aldredge House and $50 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased online, at Talulah & Hess or at the door of the Aldredge House, at 5500 Swiss Ave.
For the 11th year, East Dallas singer Kelly Brown will be playing her holiday concert at the Granada Theater on Sunday at 8 p.m.. She will get together a group of musicians for big-band swing, bluegrass, alt-pop and rock ‘n’ roll classical pieces. Tickets run from $28-$42.
Head to St. Matthews Cathedral to take in cut paper sculpture and photographs by Diane Van Buren. The display will give guests a look into the Rome’s iconic public squares and locales. A reception with the artist will be Saturday from 7 – 9 p.m and is free.
