Officer Bervin Smith said there have been nine business robberies in the past 28 days; four have been cleared by arrest. A handful were shoplift incidents that escalated into robberies. Two were at a 7-Eleven and one was at a Walmart.

Detective Samuel Butler’s tip for business owners was not to confront thieves. Instead, they should be able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and their vehicle to the police — everything from clothing, tattoos and scars to rims and markings on vehicles.

The rest of the Facebook Live update was spent discussing upcoming events, including a training for the Volunteers In Patrol program (Sept. 9), the annual Asian Safety and Health Fair (Oct. 1), National Night Out (Oct. 4), Trunk or Treat (October) and a health and safety fair (Nov. 12). For more information on these events, check the Northeast Division Facebook page.

They also recommended people download the OurDallas app.

The next update is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. on Facebook Live. Today’s video started late, and the screen was dark, but the police officers are working on it.

“If you know us at Northeast, you know we will fix it,” Smith said.
