School starts on Aug. 28, and it’s an exciting time to welcome students, parents and staff back to Dallas ISD.

We have a remarkably strong team and community in District 2, and I’m looking forward to seeing the new and returning faces to our schools. The new principals in District 2 are:

  • Katie Wanserski Eska, who has most recently served as the principal of Arthur Kramer Elementary School, will lead North Dallas High School. Katie has done an amazing job at Kramer and is beloved by the community; I am delighted she will help elevate North Dallas High School to the next level. Fun fact: Katie will be running her fourth half marathon in November and, as someone who used to compete in gymnastics, she can still walk on her hands.
  • Roxanne Cheek is the new principal at Woodrow Wilson High School. I have personally worked with Roxanne in her previous role as the principal of William Lipscomb Elementary, where she maintained an intense focus on student achievement. She is one of the most high-energy and respected leaders in all of Dallas ISD, and I know she will do a terrific job in continuing the tradition of excellence at Woodrow. Fun fact: Roxanne loves to travel, and her favorite adventure so far was a trip to Burundi, Africa, to help build a medical clinic.
  • Daisy Briones has replaced Roxanne as principal at Lipscomb Elementary. Daisy has been the assistant principal at Lipscomb and closely worked with Principal Cheek to elevate student outcomes at the campus. As principal, Daisy will help ensure consistency and stability going into this school year. Fun fact: Daisy recently took up kickboxing as a workout, and her favorite activity outside of school is spending time with her family.

A comprehensive search is underway to find the next principal of Lakewood Elementary. I am confident that the process will result in a great leader who will serve the school’s students, staff and community for many years to come. Lakewood Elementary School Assistant Principal Katie Wilke, who is widely respected and knows Lakewood Elementary like the back of her hand, will serve as acting principal until the formal selection of the next principal.

Dallas ISD is launching its first-ever Athletic Hall of Fame to recognize and honor people who have made significant contributions to the district’s high school athletic programs. You can go here and nominate someone for the Athletic Hall of Fame in one of three categories: Past Dallas ISD Student Athlete, Former Dallas ISD Coach and Contributor.

I will continue to eagerly seek parent and community feedback this school year, and I will be in touch over email and social media with information about future community coffee chats. If you’d like to attend future discussions, please sign up here.
