The 2-mile stretch of Santa Fe Trail that runs through East Dallas gets heavy traffic. In nice weather, there are strollers, bikes, joggers, and dog walkers galore. And by next year, the trail will go all the way to White Rock Lake. The city just started working on a 7-mile stretch of trail, from White Rock Lake to Randall Park, near Woodrow Wilson High School. It is expected to open in January.

When this second phase of construction is completed, the trail will run from Hill Avenue, near Baylor Medical Center, all the way to the lake. A third phase of the $5 million project will extend from Hill Avenue to the heart of Deep Ellum.
