Derek Smith will take over as executive director of the White Rock YMCA Jan. 14, according to YMCA board chairman Richard Vitale. Smith is formerly executive director of the Irving YMCA, after prior jobs at the Town North, Plano and Russell Creek Ys. Board members instrumental in the selection process, along with Vitale, were Wayne Gearey and Gerry Worrall. Smith takes over for Val England, who left the post last month.
