Two new neighborhood faces are joining the Dallas City Council. In a runoff election Saturday, voters elected Paula Blackmon in District 9 and David Blewett in District 14 to represent their interests on the Council.
Blackmon beat Erin Moore in a close race to replace outgoing City Councilman Mark Clayton. Blackmon, a past aide to Mayor Mike Rawlings and former Mayor Tom Leppert, won the seat with just 377 more votes.
Results show Blackmon captured 52 percent of the vote, while Moore won 48 percent.
“Congrats to Paula,” Moore said in a video posted on Facebook. “I don’t envy the job ahead of her. It’s going to take all of us working with her to make District 9 what it needs to be.”
In District 14, Blewett, a real estate financier and former SMU football player, beat incumbent Philip Kingston with nearly 54 percent of the vote, according to Dallas County Elections results. Kingston, who was running for his fourth and final term, captured 46 percent.
After the election, Blewett thanked supporters on Facebook and said he was honored to represent the district.
“To the next two years, I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead and working alongside each of you to make #D14 a great place to live, work and play,” he wrote.Â
