If you saw Sunday night’s edition of TV’s Extreme Makeovers, which chronicled the rebuilding of paralyzed Dallas SWAT officer Carlton Marshall’s home, has a neighborhood link: The people responsible for the new home’s interior finishes, Robert and Kaci Lyford, are the son and daughter-in-law of neighborhood music minister Nicki Lyford and her husband Paul.

Nicki Lyford is music minister at Lake Highlands Methodist Church; formerly, she held a similar position at Ridgewood Park United Methodist on Lovers Lane near Dan D. Rogers Elementary.

As you might remember, this weekend was the second anniversary of Marshall’s shooting while serving a warrant. Following the assault, Marshall had a stroke that left him permanently paralyzed, and his home in Lancaster wasn’t set up for wheelchair access. Extreme Makeovers’ host Ty Pennington led a team that rebuilt the home over the summer, and the Lyfords were part of the team.
