Neighborhood resident Steve Mabry helped a Dallas police officer subdue a drugged-out criminal at Ross and Henderson.

Unlike the rest of the crowd nearby, neighbor Steve Mabry didn’t pull out his cell phone when he saw a Dallas police officer fighting on the sidewalk with a habitual criminal at Ross and Henderson across from St. Matthew’s Cathedral.

Instead, he pulled his truck over, hopped out and helped the officer subdue a man who had been threatening nearby restaurant patrons and was trying to grab the officer’s Taser.

CBS-11 reports the incident (Lake Highland resident Steve Pickett anchored the broadcast) resulted in a few scrapes to the officer and the arrest of the man, who has been arrested more than 20 times in Dallas County.

“He (the officer) was very appreciative of what happened,” Mabry told CBS-11. “I know he would do the same for me because he does every day. I mean you got to back the police department.”
