Munger Place Church could see an expansion if two pieces of property are acquired.

The Munger Place Church on Bryan could be expanding but only if they’re able to purchase some property around the building.

The two pieces of property that church leaders are looking to acquire include the Bryan Manor House building to the east and another building on a piece of property that currently is part of Bryan Manor and sits across the street to the north. Acquiring the property means the church will have to have a zoning change and must go through the planning commission before anything can happen.

The church’s contract to buy the two pieces of property was discussed during a public meeting at the church on Thursday. The expansion is due to a growing church body that currently has more than 1,000 members.

According to church officials, the buildings, which may or may not be torn down and replaced, would be used for church office space and extra parking. As for the current people living in the boarding houses, the church’s pastor, Andrew Forrest, told Thursday’s attendees the church would help them with the transition, which could potentially mean hiring a case worker to assist.

The next stage in acquiring the pieces of property will be sending a zoning application to the city planning commission before having surrounding property owners notified and getting approval from the city council.
