Late last night, a man was shot near Malcolm X Boulevard and Main Street in Deep Ellum trying to stop a car break-in.

Just after midnight, a man was in the process of breaking into a Silver Chevrolet Camaro when the owner of the vehicle approached. The witness, Stephen Martinez, told police that the victim shouted at the suspect in an effort to stop him. As the victim continued to approach, the suspect shot the victim in the upper body.

The victim has been taken to Baylor Scott & White hospital and is expected to survive, WFAA reported. The suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving the car behind, and has not been found.
