It’s that time of year again—J.L. Long Middle School’s annual Long Run is almost here to raise money for the school budget. Proceeds from the run, now in its 20th year, will go toward several school needs including science lab equipment, instruments for the band and transportation costs for athletics and field trips.

Meredit Manak, 2016 Long Run Chair, noted there is a great need for more financial support to cover the costs school-related equipment and educational materials.

“There’s still critical gaps in the funding like supplemental books and educational programs,” Manak says. “All of it, 100 percent of the funds from the Long Run, go toward bridging those critical gaps that aren’t covered by DISD.”

According to the school’s website, festivities kick off at 5:30 while the 5K Certified Run will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 with runners starting and finishing at the front lawn of J.L. Long Middle School, located at 6116 Reiger Ave. in East Dallas. The runners will follow Old East Dallas’ Santa Fe Trail.

For those wanting to participate but looking for a shorter route, a 1K Family Run/Walk will take place the same day at 6 p.m. bringing participants around the J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson School campuses.

Volunteers and sponsors are still needed and anyone wishing to participate can visit the school’s website.
