Get ready, early bird holiday shoppers. The Lochwood Branch Library Friends are hosting their annual book sale this week.
Book sales are pretty common among libraries, but if you’re not familiar, they’re like community garage sales featuring books and other things you may find at a library. They are also fundraisers for the library branch they are held at and organized by that branch’s friends of the library nonprofit group.
In Lochwood Branch Library’s event, there will be thousands of donated/gently used books (more than 30 categories of fiction and non-fiction, including that for children and young adults) as well as magazines, music, movies, puzzles, games and cards.
The best part — items are mostly priced between 50 cents and $2.
The sale will take place for the general public from Nov. 13 through Nov. 15. Officially, it will kick off 3-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 for Lochwood Branch Library Friends members only. Non-members can stop by the sale 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. You can buy items for half the price 1:30-4:30 p.m. Friday and all day on Saturday. You can also participate in the $7 bag sale on Saturday.
And if you want to become a member, you can join at the door. Membership costs $10 a year for individuals, $5 per year for students, $7 per year for older adults over 60 years old, $20 per year for families and $50 or more for patrons, according to the friends’ website.
Of course, the book sale will take place at the Lochwood Branch Library at 11221 Lochwood Blvd., across from The Home Depot.
