Dixie House clock

Lincoln Property Company‘s Robert Dozier was one of the speakers at yesterday’s Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce Economic Summit, and as he fielded questions about Lakewood Shopping Center and Arboretum Village, both of which Lincoln owns, Advocate president Rick Wamre brought up the Dixie House clock that Lincoln took down while updating the shopping center’s facade. After neighbors protested, Lincoln pledged to return the clock to its spot, but that was more than a year ago.

Dozier said Lincoln still has some clean-up and repainting to do, as well as architectural features underway that will be finished in next six months, but he promised, “the clock will go back up.”

“The clock hadn’t worked since, you know, I think the ’40s,” Dozier said, “and in fact, when we took it down, it wasn’t even a clock — it was a wire that ran down to the Fan Man shop that was on a relay that updated it. I think it was right two times a day.” This commentary incited laughter from the businessmen and women in the room.

Dozier reiterated, though, that “there’s gonna be a clock put back up,” but his wording suggested it may not be the Dixie House clock. “We’re probably going to put the original one back up if we can figure out how to get one that actually works.”
