League of Their Own

Since its beginnings in 1982, the Lakewood Service League has raised money for many local causes. As a consequence, it has done much to improve our neighborhood.

          Consider these numbers. The League has:

n        logged more than 63,000 volunteer hours

n        raised more than $750,000, including more than $70,000 (or almost a tenth of the group’s total fundraising efforts) from last year’s first-ever Bacchus Ball.

The funds raised by the group, made up of 100 neighborhood women, have been distributed among local charities and organizations such as the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center , The Wilkinson Center, Meals on Wheels and many more.

But helping those less fortunate is not its only goal. The LSL has been instrumental in the upkeep of the Lakewood library, the Dallas Arboretum, White Rock Lake and Park, and other community green spaces, helping to ensure that our neighborhood remains beautiful and vital.

This month marks the LSL’s second annual Bacchus Ball Charity Auction. The Saturday, March 29, event features the theme “Forum” and promises “a return to the era of Julius Caesar.” Taking place at the Women’s Museum in Fair Park , the event will include food stations from local restaurants, and entertainment by the Woodrow Wilson Jazz Band and Random Axis. Silent and live auctions will be the highlight of the night.
