Former Club Dada owner Doak Boettiger doesn’t book concerts anymore, but he can still book a great party — for the kids. Boettiger, a Lakewood resident, works in a toy shop where the most popular toys are remote-controlled cars and trucks. “But they’re expensive, and even the people who can afford them don’t want to share. So the idea popped up, what if we rented trucks for parties and stuff?” he says. And Monster Truck Parties was born. For $350, Boettiger brings remote-controlled monster trucks to a local park where kids can drive the trucks up to 15 miles per hour. “The first time those kids had the controls, and they crashed them into each other, you see their eyes and they’re just like, ‘Oh gosh, let the fun begin,’” says Lucia Hrncir, who hired Boettiger for her son’s ninth birthday party. “I’m picky, and I tend to go the extra mile on things like that, and it was so fun,” she says. “Everyone’s done the bounce houses, the pool parties,” Boettiger says. “This is the ultimate party alternative because moms are dying for something new to do for kids’ birthdays.”
