CPA by day, rock bassist by night, Andy Lester always finds himself concerned with the bottom line. After moving to Lakewood from Milwaukee in 2004, Lester set himself up as an independent CPA and quickly found a steady stream of work — and not just in the tax compliance realm. “I have been playing bass for 15 years, and the opportunity came to play music with a few friends, and I jumped at the chance,” he says of his band Slider Pines, which plays local bars such as Barley House, Club Dada and the Cavern. Despite not fitting the common perception of a straight-laced accountant, Lester says his two main interests are surprisingly similar. “We decided to start our band like starting a business, as far as doing all the work ourselves and producing our own record. Many of the companies I work with as a CPA are startups and independent companies, and the processes for both have a lot in common.” The record he speaks of, “Road, Avenue and Railroad,” recently was recorded at a local studio and will be released this summer.
