It’s not just businesses and families that are having a difficult time in the current economic situation. Non-profits also are having their problems, as evidenced by the status of the Lakewood Young LIfe group. As of the end of March, the group is about $16,000 behind its funding goal for the year.
Assuming the next two months turn out to be just as difficult in terms of fund-raising, the group’s executive director Becca Eby will be forced to take a 25 percent salary cut beginning in June.
Young Life’s golf tournament is scheduled May 8 at Tenison Golf Course. if you’re a golfer and want to help, that’s one way to help the group raise money; you can also donate prizes for the golfers, if you have that capabilty. Another way is to send Eby an email and find out what you can do to help, if you’re so inclined.
Both of our sons have been involved in Young LIfe (and its precursor, Wyldlife, a group for junior high school students; the next meeting is April 24 at 6 p.m. at the White Rock YMCA), and they’ve had a good time meeting other neighborhood kids and learning more about what Young LIfe stands for. If you’re interested in helping and have the means to do so, now would be a good time to raise your hand and be counted.
