As you probably already know, Lakewood Theater has been making headlines this week. After rumors started circulating about the theater losing its lease, D Magazine ran a story claiming the theater will see a change of tenant(s), according to H. Craig Kinney of Kinney Property Co. Kinney. Kinny told D he has hired the architectural firm Good Fulton & Farrell and has been talking to a number of restaurateurs and businesses regarding the space. Later we posted a story about the theater’s lack of historic designation — either local or national — which means that it can be changed or even demolished if the owner wishes. Then we posted a follow-up in which Kinney claimed they would “absolutely do nothing on that tower or change the exterior,” although he says the interior will most likely see a major overhaul. That same day, The Dallas Morning News also posted a story about the impending changes.
