There’s an event planned for 1-3 p.m. Oct. 9 at the park, located on Williamson Road.

Demand for the playground surged after the pandemic, highlighting the need for a replacement. This project completion comes during a milestone year for the Lakewood Service League, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. It also takes the group back to its roots, because the volunteer organization’s first project was fixing up Lakewood Park.

District 9 City Council member Paula Blackmon and District 9 Park and Recreation Board member Maria Hasbany will be joining the service league at the ribbon-cutting. Guests will also be able to enjoy free ice cream, cotton candy and face painting.
