East Dallas resident Leah Shafer is the blonde up front. She's starring in The Haunting of Deep Ellum.

Another idea for the weekend that doesn’t include sports or going to the fair …

Lakewood resident Leah Shafer, a former dating and humor columnist for Quick and a former writer for the Observer, stars in a mysterious, murderous, skullduggery filled dinner theater performance, “The Haunting of Deep Ellum”, which opens this weekend in Deep Ellum at the Boiler Room, 2723 Elm. For under $50 ($49.95), dinner and interactive  comedy featuring the hilarious Comedy Killers cast are all yours.

Let’s get this out of the way: The food includes a choice of New York strip cooked with garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, dessert OR blackened tilapia with rice, mixed veggies, salad, dessert. Non‐alcoholic drinks are included and a full‐service cash bar is also available. Hint: Discounts are available on the Dallas Hub Theater Facebook page or  Comedy Killers’ website.

As for the show, I’ve never seen Comedy Killers in action, but I have been to this type of thing — I normally initially avoid interactive entertainment (too lazy, don’t enjoy talking to strangers)  but, never fail, when I wind up at a good improv, dinner theater or a show that requires audience participation, I leave feeling totally energized and completely spent from laughing so hard.

Showtimes are:
