Picking on Dallas’ Department of Sanitation is so easy.
Every holiday we go through this. No one really knows if the garbage will be picked up or not. Based on my unscientific sampling, many of my neighbors didn’t realize that the garbage was being picked up on Labor Day (they either didn’t put it out, or put it out on Tuesday.)
I’m sure the sanitation workers get double or more overtime to NOT pick up garbage on public holidays. Wouldn’t it just be cheaper and easier give them the day off? This is one of the only cities I know that has twice-weekly pick-up anyway, so are we worried about a trash back-log? At least the city website could make a statement saying "Despite the fact that every other non-emergency government agency in the country is taking the day off, we will still pick up your trash on Labor Day".
