I think it was last summer that one of our Ask a Cop columns discussed increased police presence and crack downs at White Rock Lake, and as someone who walks there pretty regularly, I have to say that I’ve been impressed with the number of times I see patrol cars circling around the walking paths. Just this morning, I saw a patrol car both drive by slowly while my friend and I were walking and (not sure if it was the same one) pull into our parking lot as we were leaving. And just a couple of weeks ago, we were walking along one of the bridges and two bike patrol officers rode by.

I think I’ve mentioned before that I walk pretty early in the morning in the pitch blackness, so this does help me to feel safer. Being two women, we always carry mace with us, and we’re certainly not alone in our early morning walking/jogging/cycling routine — with so many people at the lake, you do feel pretty safe — but still, it certainly doesn’t hurt to know that officers are watching out for us.
