In our March cover story, we told you about the new Katy Trail pedestrian bridge that was being built over Mockingbird. Construction was supposed to start back in April, but now it’s looking like the project will be delayed until winter.

I talked to Eric Van Steenburg, executive director of the Friends of the Katy Trail, about the delay this morning. He told me the setback is due to some design changes to the bridge.

“They’ve had some tremendous design challenges. Because [the bridge] is being built with public money, it has to be meet ADA compliance.”

But they’ve worked out the design kinks, and now the city must have those plans re-approved by TxDOT. That approval should hopefully be done by this September. Construction is projected to start by the end of this year.
