For the entire month of May, supporters of Stonewall Jackson and Lakewood Elementary will be battling it out by eating at Grub Burger Bar at Greenville and University. Grub will be donating 25 percent of the total monthly bills to the school with the most sales and 15 percent of the sales to the other school. Catering, dining in, carry-out for all food and drink will count towards the total. Just tell the cashier which school you are supporting to have it count towards the donation.
Johnny Cash fans should head to the Dallas Arboretum on Thursday evening for Walk the Line, a tribute band to the country legend. Tickets are $10-$27.
C.C. Young hosts The Seasoned Players and director Linda Leonard as they perform “Radio Days.” Actors read radio scripts from the 1940s and 50s Friday at 3 p.m. at this free event.
“JUNGALBOOK” opens this weekend at the Dallas Children’s Theater. See an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 story of Mowgli, a boy who learns lessons of loyalty and friendship in the jungle with the animals that raised him. Enjoyed by ages 5 and up.Tickets are $23-$28.
The Lipscomb Elementary carnival will be this Saturday from 12-4 p.m. and will include games, food and fun for the whole family, all benefitting the local elementary school. DJ Kane from KNON will be mixing up the tunes and the Dallas Police Department lowrider car will be on display. Tickets are three for $1 until Saturday and are two for $1 the day of the carnival. A wristband to play all games is $25.
Head to Flag Pole Hill on Saturday for the Dog Dayz of Dallas, a dog-friendly festival complete with contests, food trucks, scavenger hunts and pet vendors.
Mockingbird Station will host Mindfulness and Margaritas this Cinco de Mayo, which includes yoga and meditation, a kickboxing demonstration, a pop up market, margaritas and specials throughout the shopping center. The yoga class is at 9 a.m., costs $20 and includes yogi swag.
Pilates Unlimited is having an open house at their new location at Mockingbird and Abrams on Saturday. They want to move beyond the “burn and better booty” mentality to help clients move better with less pain. Clients range from 25-90.
Neighbors can peep some coops this Sunday for an urban chicken coop tour through North and East Dallas, featuring innovative coops, expert advice and a local market with food, artisans, booths and entertainment for the whole family, benefiting Moss Haven Farm. The tour begins at Moss Haven Farm and is $10.
Play, volunteer or sponsor the Tim Brown golf tournament benefitting Woodrow Wilson High School on Monday, May 7. There is also a social if golf isn’t your thing. It will include food, drink and an auction hosted by Heisman Trophy winner and Woodrow grad Tim Brown.
Fowler Christian Apartments Resident Council birthday celebration and fundraiser will be Tuesday, May 8. The celebration will include a performance from longtime Dallas performer Roxanne Roderick and a drawing for an original painting by Marta Whistler for a $25 ticket, reflecting Juliette Fowler’s wish for widows to be buried in a $25 black dress.
