Miller submitted his paperwork Feb. 17, the last day to file for candidacy, becoming the third candidate to seek the seat. He joins incumbent Paul Ridley and challenger Amanda Schulz in the race.

In his filing, he named Robert Topczynski as his treasurer.

Miller is a professional engineer, born and educated in Scotland. He has developed a specialty in the transit industry, working on major transportation projects in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Boston, St. Louis and Dallas.

His previous community service was serving on the Board of the Owner’s Association at The Renaissance.

“I love Dallas and recognize the City Council has done wonderful things to improve the quality of life in the city,” Miller said. “However, I sense that the City Council has been gradually drifting off track. Having worked on the railroad for over 50 years, I know that when a train goes off on the wrong track, the result can and usually is catastrophic. I think it is MILLER – TIME for a change.”

Miller notes housing affordability has driven students and workers out of Dallas with long commutes back into the city for work or school.

“Dallas needs to prioritize and implement a low cost integrated transportation system,” Miller said. “Our existing roads, highways and the environment cannot be expected to cope with the ever-increasing volumes of traffic. Having worked on rail and transit systems for 57 years, I am uniquely experienced and qualified to assist the City of Dallas meet this challenge.”

The City Council election is scheduled for Saturday, May 6.
