Rio Jiu-Jitsu joined the Hillside Village Shopping Center earlier this summer in June. The training facility is locally founded and owned by Rafael Lang and his co-founders Noah Martin, Devin Odell and Austin Torrance.
Martin refers to Hillside Village as a “growing, vibrant, shopping center,” that offers a stable foundation for the community Rio is hoping to build.
“The real focus at Rio is trying to support the next generation of athletes,” Martin says of the multiple training options for children. “Focusing on the self-defense aspect as well as the sport aspect.”
Rio Jiu-Jitsu offers classes that cover movement, self-defense and fundamentals for children, men and women alike. The instructors range from purple and brown belt designations to those with black belts of varying degrees.
The training facility features a spring floor system, cold plunge tubs, towel services, as well as a sauna. Access to these amenities is tied to several different training plans and membership options including all access plans and private lessons.
With only three months under their belts and making a home in Lakewood, the Rio team is already looking to the future.
“I really hope that with the combination of all our experiences, we can create multiple locations without losing the core and identity that makes Rio special,” Martin said.
