The Santa Fe Trail crosses Munger Boulevard on a stretch of road where motorists are likely to be coming too fast from Interstate 30 or in a hurry to get there. So I was relieved to notice last night that when the city resurfaced the stretch of Munger between Columbia Avenue and I-30, they also installed flashing warning lights to let drivers know they’re crossing a hike-and-bike trail.

The stretch of the trail that runs through Old East Dallas opened in July. It has stop signs for cyclists and pedestirans on the trail at each intersection with auto traffic. But until recently, there had been nothing to caution motorists to the trail crossing.
