Last fall, the Lee Elementary community was the first school to submit a new name as the trustees made it clear that the four schools named for Confederate Generals would be renamed. Parents, community members and current administration submitted Geneva Heights, named for the place where the school sits.

The school, which became an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School last year, will keep the red and white colors as well as the cougar mascot. Designed in Art Deco style by renowned Dallas architect Mark Lemmon, the current building was built in 1931 along the trolley line that once ran down Matilda.

The school is looking for logo ideas that incorporate the new name, colors, mascot and IB designation. IB values include “Think Global. Act Local.” Entries are due to Leah Mora at leah_martinezmora@yahoo.com no later than March 14. Learn more about the required elements and history here.
