Samuell-Grand Park has had a eventful summer. Last week, the groundbreaking began on the Samuell-Grand Aquatic Center, and this week, Hall-of-Famer and Rangers legend Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez visited the park to play some golf at one of the two courses at Tenison Golf Course.
Jesse Moreno, District 2’s Dallas Park Board member, tweeted out a photo of Rodriguez posing with First Tee of Dallas golfer Marcos Lopez and his sister Serafina at the course.

“Pudge” was voted into the MLB Hall of Fame this summer, in his first year of eligibility after playing for the Rangers for 11 years in the ’90s and early 2000s, with a brief appearance in Arlington in 2009. The 14-time All-Star never won any championships the Rangers, but won a World Series and was one of the key performers with the Florida Marlins in 2003 the year after he left the Rangers. Dallas Mayor MikeRawlings has named last week “Pudge Week” for the 13-time Gold Glove winning catcher.
