The Woodrow Wilson High School graduate was chosen to participate in the Meijer LPGA Classic as a college sophomore and won the 4-A state golf championship in 2013, the same year she was her school’s valedictorian.

But now a senior at the University of Michigan, Choi is wrapping up her golf career as a student. Choi is in her fourth year on the university’s golf team and is now entering the sport’s fall season.

Last year Choi and the team made it to nationals and were ranked as one of the top 24 teams in the country.

“It’s probably my favorite memory out of all my experiences here,” Choi says.

Choi is also returning to her home city next month when the team competes in their fourth fall tournament on Nov. 7 and 8 at Southern Methodist University‘s Trinity Forest Golf Club. For Choi, this means she doesn’t just get to compete back at home but her friends and family get to watch her play as well.

Once the fall season is over Choi will start up with the team for the last time in the spring.

However, when asked if she would like to continue her golf career professionally after graduation, she says that isn’t the plan. She’s focused on her economics major and says she would like to return to Dallas to start off her career.

But just because she doesn’t plan to play golf professionally doesn’t mean the golf clubs are getting put away for good.

“As of now I’m not interested in going professional but…I’d love to keep playing golf as an amateur and keep competing,” Choi says. “College golf has been really fun and it’s been nice to be a part of a team and have people to practice with and work hard with and I think I’m going to miss out on that aspect if I were to turn pro.”
