Theater students at Gaston Middle School won first place in a regional competition for their performance of, “The State of Being Free: The Dred Scott Debate.” And they will compete in the Texas History Day Competition in Austin May 5-7.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Debate & Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences”. Aside from the five Gaston students, 17 DISD students will compete in the state competition in categories including essay, website development, video documentary and visual art.
