1145 Peavy.
Earlier this year Greenville Avenue Pizza Co. announced plans to open a second location on Peavy and Garland. That corner has been a hopping local for incoming businesses. (We covered the hipsterization of the area in May.) Sammy Mandell, co-owner of GAPCO, says he’s hoping to open the popular pie-maker’s second location at the same corner in November, or possibly December.
Work has not begun at the new location, but, “We’re getting close,” Mandell says. The East Dallas native grew up in the neighborhood, graduating from Bryan Adams High School in 2001. He still has friends in the area, but many of them didn’t want to deal with the headaches of traversing Greenville. So when a space opened up in his old neighborhood at the aforementioned hot spot, he jumped at the opportunity.
“It’s great to see new businesses there,” he says. “It’s a little area, but there are a lot of small businesses and little shops. It’s really cool to be a part of it. It feels similar to what I’m a part of over on Greenville.”
The new location is moving into the same strip mall as Goodfriend at 1145 Peavy. The 1,000 square-foot location was previously a tattoo parlor. When GAPCO takes it over the space will mostly be used for carry-out and delivery orders, Mandell says, but will also include limited seating. Recently Mandell applied for a zoning change application from the city to allow the sale of alcohol on-site.
