As Fourth of July quickly approaches, you may still be figuring out your plans. There’s several places around the Dallas Metroplex to celebrate and see fireworks, including in our own neighborhoods. Here’s the details on a few options:
Lakewood Fourth of July Fun Run and Parade
There’s no place like home (in Lakewood). Or at least that’s the theme of this year’s Fourth of July fun run and parade. Both events will begin at Lakewood and Cambria Boulevards. The fun run starts at 8 a.m. and is just over a mile. It costs $5 to participate, and funds will be collected via cash or Venmo at the start line.
The parade will start at 10 a.m. From Lakewood Boulevard, the procession will turn north on Pearson Drive, then east on Lakeshore Drive to eventually rejoin with Lakewood Boulevard before going south on Winsted Drive and then back to Lakeshore. While candy can’t be thrown to watchers from the parade floats and cars, the Candy Brigade will be in the procession to hand out candy, thanks to Bell Nunnally and Lakewood Neighborhood Association.
The neighborhood association is also sponsoring prizes for parade floats — first place: $1,000 Amazon gift card and a TCBY ice cream party for up to 20 people; second place: $400 Amazon gift card, and third place: $100 Amazon gift card. Winners will be announced on social media.

Shakespeare in the Park
Theater lovers can catch a view of the Fair Park fireworks display with a showing of The Importance of Being Earnest (which is actually by Oscar Wilde, not William Shakespeare, but nevertheless).
Tickets cost $21.72 but are discounted at $16.55 for seniors, students and veterans/members of the military. Children 10 years old and younger get in for free. The show starts at the Samuell-Grand Amphitheater (1500 Tenison Parkway) at 8:30 p.m. A single parking pass costs $8.27.
Patrons will be able to see fireworks during intermission and are welcome to bring beer, wine and picnics as well as lawn chairs and blankets.

Little Forest Hills Fourth of July Parade
Your Little Forest Hills Neighborhood Association is hosting a parade on the Fourth at 9 a.m. The procession begins at White Rock United Methodist Church, takes Diceman Drive to Tavaros Avenue, heads to San Leandro Drive, north to San Saba Drive and ends at Casa Linda Park. You can also stick around at the park from 9:30-10:30 a.m. for refreshments.
If you want to do more than watch the parade, you can walk or ride in the procession with a homemade float, classic car, decorated strollers, wagons or bikes, and/or provide unique entertainment. Just don’t make your parade entry political or commercial, follow traffic rules and don’t fire off silly string, water guns or other potentially dangerous projectiles. To participate in the procession, show up at White Rock United Methodist Church’s back lot at 8:15 a.m.
