If you want to cool off and feel good about it, then head to the Taiwanese shaved ice pop-up called Snowbaby at The Lot this Saturday. On their website, customers are advised to “imagine if ice cream and a snow cone had a baby” when imagining the delectable treat. A block of ice is sliced into incredibly thin sheets of ice leaving an almost silky texture to be topped with condensed milk and fresh fruit. The all-natural pop-up is from 5-9 p.m.
The space that housed World Beer Co. next to Mudsmith will soon be a pastry and gelato eatery, according to a Mudsmith barista and confirmed by a welder working on the building at 2116 Greenville Ave. The Italian ice cream joint will enter into an increasingly crowded Lower Greenville dessert market, alongside JOY Macaroons, Steel City Pops, Dude Sweet Chocolate and Motor Sister’s Ice Cream.

When Fruteria Cano burned down almost a year ago, the neighborhood lost one of its favorite spots for fresh fruit and aguas frescas. The building remained in its burned-out condition for months, but recently a fence was put up around the property and every part of the building was removed except the old brick facade. According to Fruteria Cano general manager Yadira Narro, the property owners are rebuilding the structure and the Fruteria hopes to move back to its original location within a year. The fruteria has been operating out of La Huasteca, the taco place across the street, since the fire.
