LG Taps is under new management and hopes to be a neighborhood bar that lasts. The Lower Greenville location has seen its fair share of concepts in the years since the end of J.Pepe’s. Vagabond and Knuckle Sandwich occupied that space but didn’t last long either. Jason Caswell, a longtime restaurateur who worked with Lakewood Bar and Grill, Club Dada and The Old Crow, took over with his new management company and gave the restaurant and bar a facelift.
LG added TVs to the front and rear patios, along with oversized board games and Jenga. There will be fire pits in the back where patrons can cook S’mores. The new menu features fresh and simple fare, including burgers and loaded tater tots.
The bar will have a signature margarita, as Caswell worked in a tequila bar for years, but also will serve an Old Fashioned and a Moscow Mule, all of which will be less than $8.
“No one wants to pay $12 for a drink,” Caswell says.
He says the restaurant doesn’t want to to cater to the college crowd, but hopes to bring in the neighborhood families and young professionals.
Castle fielded feedback on Facebook and read Yelp reviews for the old LG Taps to address the complaints. Caswell says that LG Taps had formerly paid bots to give positive feedback online, but he did his best to seek out authentic reviews and make changes.
“Its all the little things you know how to fix if you have experience. That can be overwhelming if you don’t,” he says.
Right now, LG Taps will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., but will look to add lunch and a weekend brunch, if the demand is there.
Five years after Velvet Taco opened up on Henderson, the restaurant will add another East Dallas location. The new spot is in the former Pollo Tropical at 4622 Greenville Ave. The new location will offer another taco option for SMU students, who can choose from Rusty Taco and Torchy’s in the same area. Velvet Taco will continue its Indian, Mediterranean and Japanese- inspired tacos, will incorporate the drive-thru window and hopes to be open in November.
Village Baking Company’s University Boulevard location is closed, and the company has moved to a bigger space in the design district at 4924 Woodall St. Boulangerie, Village Baking Company’s pastry and sandwich shop on Lower Greenville, hasn’t gone anywhere, so you can still get your croissant fix in the neighborhood.
