Lower Greenville has been a turbulent place for restaurants over the past several months, but it’s got some new offerings opening soon.

Feed Company Eatery and Bourbon Lounge is hoping to bring a diverse menu and a refined bourbon selection to a crowded restaurant scene.

The menu includes baby back ribs, street tacos (zucchini or pork), shrimp and grits. They also have an expansive liquor selection, with their own bourbon menu that includes over 120 different varieties ranging from $7 to $180 per glass. Unfortunately, Feed’s bourbon collection was burglarized early Wednesday morning when thieves carried out some choice bourbons in the bar’s own trashcans. They wrote in a Facebook post, “Even after that weak attempt they barely dented our bourbon selection.” They are moving forward with their opening despite the theft.

But they built their business on breakfast, which is served all day at the restaurant that will stay open until 3 a.m.

“We know how much people love breakfast, and in that area in particular, there are no late-night breakfast offerings,” Sameer Patel, one of the owners, told Culture Map’s Teresa Gubbins. “That’s an area that has more bars. We want to bring something the neighborhood doesn’t have.”

Feed will take the place of what used to be Nandina at 5631 Alta Ave. This location has seen a number of different restaurants over the years, including a jazz bar and a Chinese place, which could be because it sits a block off the main action of Greenville, but Feed Company hopes to attract customers away from the main drag. One advantage is that they have a Greenville secret weapon: their own parking lot. They will officially open June 9.

Slater’s 50/50, a burger concept from San Diego, is arriving in Texas and bringing with it burgers that are 50 percent bacon. Don’t worry, you read that right. The restaurant franchise was founded in 2009, and has made a name of itself via uncommon creations such as the Peanut Butter and Jellousy (made with beef, bacon, peanut butter and jelly) as well as the Pizza Burger (half beef, half ground Italian sausage).

Slater’s doesn’t shy away from the use of bacon, and includes bacon cocktails, bacon ketchup, bacon milkshakes, bacon cheese fries and a bacon brownie. Feel free to make a call to your cardiologist before you go, just to save you time.

Dallas local Dave Coussirat is bringing the restaurant to its first location in Texas. “It was love at first bite for my family,” he said. “It was an obvious fit for the Lone Star state. We’re excited to make it part of Texas.”

Slater’s 50/50 will open on June 19 at 2817 Greenville Ave., where Greenville Bar and Grill used to be (the historic sign is gone). The restaurant will include two levels, each with their own bar. They hope to open the rooftop patio in the coming months.

Mockingbird Station continues to add new eateries as well. Following Edith’s opening last month, the same restaurant group is bringing Mezze Mediterranean into the space below the Angelika Theater.

Mezze will be different from many of the fast casual or traditional Mediterranean restaurants in Dallas, and will feature an open kitchen so that patrons can watch whole hogs be roasted on a 12-foot rotisserie, CultureMap reported.

The restaurant looks to have a farm to table concept, with a big brunch, sangria and cocktails. It will also feature indoor and outdoor seating with a bar that faces the theater. Manager Suzanne York says the restaurant will open June 12.
