If there was one perk in 2020 it was that we didn’t have to wait around for the State Fair of Texas to eat a Fletcher’s Corny Dog.
When the fair was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, Fletcher’s Corny Dog hit the road to sell its fried fare at pop-up events around Dallas. It followed that success with a partnership with Golden Chick, which sold corny dogs for a limited time at locations throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
But that wasn’t the first time Fletcher’s reimagined itself as a fast-food concept. In 1960, Fletcher’s had its own drive-thru at 3610 Samuell Blvd. across from Tenison Glen Golf Course, according to Flashback Dallas.
Ads from that summer show the eatery needed fry cooks, car waitresses, counter men and bus boys who were “nice appearing, sober and reliable.”
The drive-thru only lasted about three years, and it was replaced by a Red Coleman liquor store, Flashback Dallas reported. It is now El Palmeras.
