Dallas Fire Rescue responded shortly after 8:15 a.m. to a structure fire in the 8400 block of Hunnicut Road, spokesman Jason Evans said. Upon arrival, firefighters found an extinguished fire in a garage attached to a one-story home.

They also discovered an unresponsive adult male with significant burns, Evans said. First responders began CPR and took the victim to an area hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The victim has not yet been identified.

Investigators said an individual saw smoke coming from the garage and called 911. He then went in and found a fire on a couch, which he put out with water. He also discovered the victim.

The cause of the fire and the victim’s death is still under investigation, according to Dallas Fire Rescue.
