The area surrounding Lakewood Park was temporarily closed Thursday while authorities investigated a suspicious item that turned out to be a fake grenade, District 9 City Councilwoman Paula Blackmon said on Facebook.
The item was found near Lakewood Park, and police cordoned the 7200 block of Williamson Road at Cornelia Lane.
Authorities determined that the grenade was fake and cleared the scene, Blackmon said.
